Studying in Canada is the dream of many international students. The country’s high-quality education system, diverse culture, cordial people, and stunning landscapes have made Canada one of the most popular educational hubs in the world. If you are planning to pursue your studies in Canada, you need to obtain a student visa. In this article, we will guide you through the process of applying for a student visa in Canada.

Step 1: Choose the Right Program and Institution

The first step in applying for a student visa in Canada is to choose the right program and institution. You need to research and find programs that match your interests and career goals. You also need to ensure that the institution is recognized by the Canadian government and has the necessary accreditation. Every Government approved institution in Canada possesses a unique DLI Number. This number is available on the official website of the institution you are targeting. You can cross-check the DLI number on the Canada Government’s website (www.canada.ca) as well. Also, check that the Institution offers Post Graduate Work Permit.  Once you have chosen your program and institution, you need to apply for admission.

Education Planner works with Government-approved institutions with unique DLI numbers. Education Planner ensures that you get admission to a reputed institution only.

Step 2: Obtain an Offer Letter

To apply for a student visa in Canada, you need to obtain an offer letter from a Canadian educational institution. The offer letter will confirm that you have been accepted into a program of study and that you are required to pay 1 Year of tuition fees. You will need to provide this letter as well as official fee receipts to the Canadian visa office when you apply for your student visa.

Education Planner assists students with the documentation required for the applications.  They also help students in obtaining the letter of acceptance. They also help you with providing important information like how to find and apply for scholarships available in different Institutions.

Step 3: Check the Visa Requirements

The next step is to check the visa requirements for your country of origin. You will need to provide various documents to support your visa application, such as a Digital Photograph, valid passport, acceptance letter, fee receipts, proof of financial support, and medical exam results. You should also check the visa processing times for your country to ensure that you have enough time to complete the process before your program starts.

Step 4: Apply for a Study Permit

Once you have obtained your acceptance letter and checked the visa requirements, you can apply for a study permit. You can apply online depending on your country of origin. You will need to pay an embassy fee and provide all the required documents to support your study permit application. The embassy fee includes the biometrics fee and study permit fees as well. The respective department will then send you a biometrics instruction letter. You have to bring your passport as well as consent form and appointment letter, Biometric instruction letter, and embassy fee receipt while providing your fingerprints and photo.

Step 5: Wait for the Decision

After you have submitted your application, you will need to wait for the decision from the Canadian visa office. Normally, it takes three weeks at maximum after your biometrics to process a student visa. The high commission will send you the original Passport Request (PPR) letter/form. You have to bring that letter along with the passport, consent form, and courier form to VFS OFFICE. They will stamp the passport accordingly. You can check the status of your application online, and you may be asked to provide additional documents or attend an interview. When the passport is stamped, the High Commission sends you the visa approval letter/port of entry/ letter of introduction which includes the study permit and medical exam validity.

Step 6: Arrive in Canada

You can make travel arrangements. Upon reaching Canadian Airport you will need to present your documents and the border service officer will issue you a study permit.
